Guru Gobind Singh worshipped the sword as the female
power. An example is the Adi Shakti symbol, which represents primal female
power and gives fearlessness. It has is a double-edged sword surrounded by a
Chakkar--a circular weapon, sided by two curved swords of protection.
The following shabad, "Tribhangi Chhandh," used as a
mantra, is the ultimate praise of the sword. Best known as "Jai Te Gung," by
Guru Gobind Singh, it was given out at our Winter Solstice in Florida as the
new "power mantra" for 2010.They recommended that we start learning it and reciting it a few
times each day, and to leave the music playing on all night. The effects are
numerous and well-tuned to the year 2010, ten representing Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Guru.
I came across three translations that together
impart the depth and beauty of the Shabad's power:
1.
Khag
khandd bihanddan khal dhal khanddan ath ran manddan bar banddan|
The sword hacks and breaks ruthlessly into pieces
and fragments the hordes of fools. This vigorous (weapon) adorns the battlefield.
Its long (forceful) arm is unbreakable. Its awesome
splendour overshadows the lustre of the Sun.
Sukh
santhaa karanan dhuramath dharanan kilabikh haranan as saranan|
It looks after the welfare of the Saints and
pulverises the wicked. It destroys the sins and I seek Its refuge.
Jai jai
jag kaaran srisatt oubaaran mam prathipaaran jai thaegan|2|
Hail, hail to the Creator of the world, the Saviour
of the creation. My protector Scimitar, hail to Thee.(2)
2.
The sword breaks through and cuts down the
demons of the mind and body. This beautiful and powerful weapon adorns the
battlefield of life.
It is as an extension of the arm, unbreakable and terribly fast. Its
awesome splendor overshadows even the sun.
It protects the peace and happiness of the saints and destroys any
powerful negative energy. It has erased the negativity and guilt that I carry.
I seek its refuge.
Praise, praise be to the great creator of the
world, savior of the creation, my great protector; praise be to the sword!
3.
Thou art the Destroyer, the Annihilator of the hosts of ignorance and evil,
the Embellisher of the battlefield.
Thy punishment is stern and inexorable,
Thy aspect refulgent, thy glory and splendour dazzle even the sun.
Thou bring'st happiness to the holy,
Thou crush'st the wicked and scatter'st sinners,
I seek thy refuge. Glory, O Glory to thee, O Sword,
The Primordial Promoter, Guardian of the Universe, my Protector and Sustainer.
Yogi Bhajan words on Jai Te Gung from "A Man's Life is Not
a Man's Life", given 5/7/89:
This
shabad is the root cause of the Sikh nation being imperial. You sing this
shabad, hear this shabad, relate to this shabad, and from a begging bowl
poverty, you shall have the royalty, imperial dignity and your grace. And that
shall be the God's gift.
Understand
this shabad and get into the rotation faculty of this sound, it works like a
sudarshan chakra. It cuts around karma like something invincible cuts and
slaughters the enemy. Oh, you are Americans, and you know better. As the lawn
mower mows the lawn. That's what this shabad is.
Try it
sometime. It is so intoxicating that it intoxicates the entire evil in the
human being, this shabad. And once you can get this shabad around you, you are
done. It will follow you. That is also the power of this shabad. You can without
uttering and trying to hear, whenever there will be any negativity within the
orbit of your life, this shabad will start ringing in your ear.
I think
this is the best gift Guru has ever given us. Language is absolutely straight.
There's no duality about it. But the imperial reality of the Khalsa Nation is
this shabad. It is not the man that is worshipped. It is not the crown that is
worshipped. It is the installed imperial reality that is worshipped.
