Wings of Grace

From MEMOIRS OF A YOGINI

December 29th, 1992

Today, immersed in the Grace of God Meditation, the Guru gave me beautiful wings of grace.

The Grace of God meditation is done while lying on our backs. Women hold the breath all the way in five times and all the way out five times and silently chant, “I am Grace of God,” ten times per each in held and out held breath.

Over the past six months I have been visualizing bringing the mantra to each chakra, working up the spine. But there are seven chakras and ten repetitions. So on eight I send the mantra out the top of my head, and circulate the last two in my arc line and aura. Where do you go from there?

Today I decided to use the extra repetitions to penetrate the shamanic “Veil of Illusion” over my crown. On the next held breath, I used the mantra to dwell in the upper world on the Grace of God, and on following breaths silently chanted "I am Grace of God" as a stepladder to climb higher into the etheric realm, effortlessly becoming a white bird with great wings of grace, climbing into the light. This light was like the sun, but I felt it to be a divine light, going on forever.

I decided to go beyond it! My wings brought me higher and higher with each silent beat of the mantra, “I am Grace of God, I am Grace of God, I am Grace of God, I am Grace of God, I am Grace of God, I am Grace of God, I am Grace of God, I am Grace of God, I am Grace of God, I am Grace of God.” With the held breath ending, I soared down to my crown chakra and easily re-entered my body, retaining golden white light within my consciousness.

In phase two of the meditation, we sit up in easy pose and hold our left hand up as though we are taking an oath, tensing each finger in turn while chanting, “I am Grace of God,” one time out loud.

Each finger represents a planet, whose energies we imbue with grace within ourselves and through our projection:

The little finger is Mercury, enhancing communication.

The ring finger represents the sun, empowering our physical bodies with healing and grace of motion.

The middle finger stands for Saturn. We strengthen virtues of patience and self-discipline.

The index finger is for Jupiter. We enshrine the light of wisdom within us.

The thumb represents the earth, ego, “dragons head and dragons tail.” We bring grace to the ego, so it supports our spirit.

I brought this realization of the Grace of God through the beautiful Light that had descended with me, wherein I experienced each finger’s cosmic connection—to the planet Mercury, the shining Sun, ringed Saturn, luminous Jupiter, and lastly, Earth—wherein dragons symbolize the spiraling DNA of creation, knowing all these energies to equally be a part of my soul.

The Grace of God Meditation

1. Lie relaxed on your back with the legs extended straight, eyes closed, palms facing up.

2. Inhale and, holding the inhale, repeat silently while concentrating on one finger at a time, "I am Grace of God." Repeat this ten times, once for each finger.

3. Exhale and holding the breath out repeat the same process.

4. Continue to do this until you have inhaled five times and exhaled five times, repeating silently, "I am Grace of God," ten times each time you inhale and each time you exhale. This will be a total of one hundred times the mantra is repeated.

5. With eyes still closed, sit up in an easy cross-legged position, right hand in Gyan Mudra resting on the right knee, left hand held at shoulder level as if to take an oath.

6. Concentrate on each finger, tensing it as you do, and repeat out loud five times for each finger, "I am Grace of God."

Little Finger (Mercury) Power to relate, communicate and make decisions.

Ring Finger (Sun) Health, strength, physical vitality.

Middle Finger (Saturn) Emotional control, patience.

Index Finger (Jupiter) Wisdom

Thumb (Dragon Head Ego
Dragon Tail)

The optimum times for this meditation are sunrise and sunset, on an empty stomach. Your emotions will become more positively channeled and any physical or mental ill health will be greatly improved. Continue practicing for one year and your aura will become tipped with gold or silver; great strength and God's healing powers will flow through you.

In Gyan Mudra the forefinger is curled, supporting the thumb, with the other three fingers extended straight.
