Blessing Earth as Oneself
It was an all Saints Day morning, My car was back at the shop, My sadhana, an auto-reverse of morning chants That had played all night. I woke up to find myself laying on my belly--rare for me. So comfortable! I did not want to turn over to do the morning blessing. So I asked Guru, May I somehow do it lying face down? "Yes," he answered, "Give your self blessings to bless the earth." Okay, it sounded easy enough. But it was confusing. My meditation went deeper and deeper To understand how it could work:
Hummee Hum Brahm Hum upon the Earth's crown; I chanted Humme Hum, Brahm Hum, Imaginatively, lovingly Patting the Earth's aura in the etheric realm, As I normally pat my head: Hummee Hum Brahm Hum, "God and Earth are One."
Blessing Earth's Third Eye: Earth visible only by the Light of the Sun; Grateful to God in the Sun.
Blessing Earth's eyes, The reflection of the sun in every body of water, From the ocean to a drop of rain, Dew and mist, blessed with the presence of God, Which created them.
Blessing the nostrils of the Earth, how she senses; Her chemistry, how it changes with touch, heat and sound; How Earth breathes through the trees, How she breathes the Guru, Dark to Light, All to God.
Blessing the mouth of the Earth, How she ingests rain and minerals, Decaying organic matter; How she speaks through whooshing winds, rushing water, Crackling fire, rumbling quakes... All speaking pure Truth.
Blessing ears of the Earth, How she hears, How she absorbs sound in rocks and crystals, How all is vibration, How she resonates with all sounds everywhere; May she hear only Truth.
Blessing the throat of the Earth, May her vortexes and great trees, Volcanoes, deep springs and caves Give and receive from her heart like God.
Blessing the heart of the Earth, the sea, The pulse of life, God sustaining the world through her river vessels And capillary streams. Blessing the Earth's digestive system, How the Earth processes nutrients and pollution Through organic matter and plants Rooted in her soil, And purifies water through the force of rushing water In rivers, waterfalls and streams.
Blessing the womb of the Earth, God creating life, Earth giving birth to mountains and oceans, Forests and farmlands, Flowering meadows, bogs, deserts and wetlands, And seedlings emerging through concrete.
Blessing her thighs, the will of the Earth, May God's Will be her will, To survive all civil suppression, Pavement, roads, bombs, fires, Clear-cutting, pollution and mines.
Blessing her knees, her balance, May her balance with nature Equal her balance with the heavens So that all beings are as grounded as the tree of life, And equally, effectively reach To higher awareness.
Blessing her shins, her standard, May her standard be God's Will on Earth, Purifying chemical, hormonal and genetic aberrations.
Blessing her feet, May Earth's cosmic journey bless the universe As the universe blesses the Earth.
Blessing her toes, her direction, May her path and rotation be aligned With the Cosmic Plan.
Blessing her arms, her reach, May we feel her compassion In sheltering landforms, Life-giving vegetation, Fresh flowing waters and ozone skies Her hands doing God's Work, Sat Kartar.
The Gurus then covered my good intentioned efforts With effortless blessings of their own-- Guru Nanak strode the Earth with the grace of Sat Nam; Guru Angad embraced the Earth with Love of God; Guru Amar Das was like the sun, Shining equally on all; Guru Ram Das saturated Earth with Amrit waters; Guru Arjan blessed these waters with cosmic waves Of serene Divine Union; Guru Hargobind gave Earth sovereign rule Over her worldly body and spirit; Guru Har Rai swept through Earth's skies, Opening vast realms of nature For the Divine to enter and imbue her with love; Guru Har Krishan took Earth's pain into his heart And gave back pure Energy of Life; Guru Teg Bahadur sublimated Earth's physical, mental And spiritual bodies into one divine reach In love of Truth; Guru Gobind Singh balanced Earth on the tip of his sword.
Guru Gobind Singh, beyond comprehension Wahe Guru! I rolled onto my back For self blessings and wake-up exercises, Leisurely rising, Divinely guided!
Sat Nam
